Brown Named Assistant Program Administrator
Rachel M. Brown ('97), CRNA, DNP has been named MTSA Assistant Program Administrator, announced MTSA Dean/Program Administrator Chris Hulin ('06), CRNA, MBA, DNP. "We are delighted that Rachel has accepted our invitation to become part of the MTSA team. Her experience in the anesthesia community, coupled with her leadership skills and reputation of integrity well qualifies her to serve MTSA in this important capacity," said Hulin. She began her duties at MTSA on September 4, 2012.
As an integral part of the faculty and leadership team, Dr. Brown's responsibilities at MTSA will include curriculum planning, program development, implementation, and evaluation of the nurse anesthesia program. She will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program in the absence of the program administrator.
Most recently Brown comes to MTSA from Anesthesia Services Associates where she has practiced as a CRNA since 1997, and Chief CRNA for five of those years. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from University of Tennessee/Memphis in 1985, and a Masters of Science with focus in Anesthesia from MTSA in 1997. She was awarded both a Masters of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice from Union University, Jackson, Tennessee in May, 2012. She has taught undergraduate nursing classes at the Hendersonville, Tennessee campus of Union University.
Brown says that she was the first female anesthesia provider at Hendersonville Hospital, Hendersonville, Tennessee, and she too was the first female student government president at Volunteer State Community College, Gallatin, Tennessee.
She and Mike, her husband of 25 years, have two daughters, one of whom is a nursing student at Cumberland University in Lebanon; the other, a geology student at Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, Tennessee.
