New Director of HBI Named

MADISON, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee School of Anesthesia (MTSA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Matthew Zinder, DNAP, CH, CRNA, as the new Director of the Hornsby Business Institute (HBI), bringing decades of experience in anesthesia practice, business leadership, education, and clinician wellness to the Institute’s growing portfolio of professional development programs.

The Hornsby Business Institute was established to equip CRNAs with the business knowledge and leadership skills needed to succeed in today’s evolving healthcare environment. Under Dr. Zinder’s leadership, the Institute will continue expanding its educational offerings while honoring the vision established by Larry Hornsby, whose passion for business education has impacted countless anesthesia professionals.

Dr. Zinder has dedicated nearly 30 years to healthcare, beginning his career as an emergency medical technician (EMT) with a volunteer fire department. Today, he owns and operates a Maryland-based mobile anesthesia practice with roots dating back to 1984. Throughout his career, he has become a nationally and internationally recognized speaker on topics including the business of anesthesia, clinician wellness, stress management, and anesthesia practice.

In addition to his clinical and business leadership, Dr. Zinder is the host and producer of The Provider Wellness Podcast, where he interviews experts on healthcare provider well-being and self-care. He is also co-owner of ProgramPrep, a tutoring service that prepares nurse anesthesia students and residents for the Self-Evaluation Examination (SEE) and National Certification Examination (NCE).

His commitment to education extends into the classroom, where he serves as an Assistant Professor at Wilmington University and as adjunct faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, Fairfield University, and Georgetown University Schools of Nurse Anesthesia.

“I am excited to step into this role at MTSA because I have a deep interest in education and in the business of anesthesia,” said Dr. Zinder. “The Hornsby Business Institute offers a unique opportunity for CRNAs to learn an incredibly important topic, especially in this ever-changing and dynamic healthcare marketplace. My aim is to continue the legacy of high-quality education that Larry Hornsby started while continuously evolving and growing the program into the premier business education resource for all CRNAs. I appreciate this opportunity and look forward to growing with the program.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Zinder to MTSA,” said Dr. Chris Hulin, President of MTSA. “His extensive experience as a clinician, educator, and entrepreneur makes him uniquely qualified to lead the Hornsby Business Institute. His passion for advancing the profession and preparing CRNAs to thrive as both clinicians and business leaders aligns perfectly with the mission of the Institute.”

Dr. Zinder will officially begin leading the Hornsby Business Institute this year, with Dr. Larry Hornsby working alongside him through the end of the year to ensure a smooth transition. Together, they will continue building on the Institute’s strong foundation while preparing for its next chapter of growth.

MTSA looks forward to welcoming Dr. Zinder to campus in the coming months and is excited for the future of the Hornsby Business Institute under his leadership.
